Fun Fact: Why Octal?

Filed under: Default — adam @ 9:58 pm PDT

Why would anyone ever count in octal outside of computer science and math? Guess, then read on.

From the Wikipedia entry on Octal:

The Yuki language in California and the Pamean languages in Mexico have octal systems because the speakers count using the spaces between their fingers rather than the fingers themselves.

News to me! They sure miss[ed] out on two extra digits worth of convenience.
