El Norte: Part Three - The Kitchen Floor
Yep, still working on the kitchen floor. More HUGE thanks to Johnny Miller and Bob Monsen!

So, the floor is taking a little longer than we had originally planned. :) Hopefully we’ll finish levelling it this morning, finish assembling our cabinets, and maybe even demo the kitchen nook the same as the kitchen.
Thanks to Robert and Johnny Mill for helping today.
After Abbot’s hammer-enhanced advice, we started down an unforseen course of kitchen floor replacement. Slapping down bamboo on top of the existing floor(s) would create about a 1″ step-up into the kitchen. First I saw a hole in the floor looking right into the crawlspace, then some vinyl came up, then various layers of plywood and leveling compound, then we hit the actual fir subfloor. It was like peeling back a 70-year onion of decisions of the house’s previous inhabitants.
Remodeling is not for the feint of heart, and let’s just say I never would’ve done any of this of my own volition. That said, I’m quite glad that I’m right in the center of what’s turned out to be some pretty dang fun stuff! The tangible nature of do-it-yourself home improvement is about the farthest thing I can imagine from working on the computer, and I’m enjoying the contrast.
Thanks to Bryan, Abbot, and Robert, and Addi, who graciously helped us on the new house! Come back anytime!

This reminds me of the face that reports your remaining health percentage in the original version of “Doom”…
(Well, ok, so that was an XDoom screen capture)

I’ve been frequenting Hedonistica quite a bit lately. Via an Adblock-enabled Firefox 1.5, mind you, so I’m not aware if there are any dodgy ads or whatnot.
If there’s one thing the internet is good for, it’s propagating short-length shock-value videos.
I enjoyed this one… a TV show host decides to try and see if he can beat a video game track racing time using a real car on a real racetrack.
Can he do it?
